Title I

Blue Ribbon

Schoolwide Title 1

Washington Elementary is privileged to be Schoolwide Title 1 school. As a Schoolwide Title 1 facility we are able to provide comprehensive strategies for improving instruction and resources for all students, not just students who have been identified as “targeted assistance” in the past. Having a Schoolwide program allows us to determine how to organize their operations and allocate the funding resources available to us to support higher quality instruction, and encourage family involvement.

In a Schoolwide program all staff, resources, and classes are part of the overall Schoolwide program. The purpose of schoolwide Title 1 is to generate high levels of academic rigor and achievement in core subjects for ALL students. This is achieved through:

     High quality tier one instruction

     Access to quality interventions

Programming that is scientifically research based

Professional development for instructors on methodology, strategies and best practices

Inviting families and encouraging them to be involved in their students’ education, and giving the opportunities to do so.

Having schoolwide Title 1 allows us to provide more staff so that students are responded to where they show the greatest needs. Our school has many small, flexible groupings that are provided by a variety of staff, that allow students who are having difficulty to have greater instructional support and time, and allows students who are excelling to continue to be challenged.

How do we keep you involved?

Annually when your student enrolls at Washington Elementary you will be notified of Schoolwide Title 1 through the parent compact letter. This letter outlines the responsibilities of the teacher, the parent and the student to promote the success of the student. We are a team!

Throughout the school year we will provide opportunities for you to be involved in your student’s learning through things such as (but not limited to):

     Back to school nights

     PTO

     Annual Giving Thanks Breakfasts

     Bookfairs

     Parent teacher conferences

     Awards assemblies

You may be asked to participate in district or school-based Title 1 meetings

You are provided information regarding Washington Elementary and Title 1 through newsletters, conferences, and other parent engagement events.

What can you do to support your student and a Schoolwide Title 1 program?

Share a love of learning with your student and set a good example by being involved and interested in their learning (reading together, practicing math facts, playing games, engaging in practice or homework that is sent home).

Make learning fun! It doesn’t have to be a “sit and get,” for it to be educational. Playing family games together, going to the library, attending community events, taking time to visit with your child in conversation.

Show an interest in your child’s day. Ask questions about their learning, AND about their social interactions with peers. Make sure questions are specific so they elicit an answer. Instead of “how was your day,” ask, “what was good about your day?”

At Washington Elementary we believe in working as an educational team composed of staff, parents and students to help students achieve their educational goals. Schoolwide Title 1 has given us the opportunity to ensure all members of the team have what they need to growth of every student, every day.
